World Series of Poker Europe title sponsor Betfair has announced its upcoming schedule of 2007 WSOP-E broadcasts, anchored on the United Kingdom’s Sky Sports channel and scheduled to air across much of Europe. Betfair’s sponsorship prominently features spokesperson Annette Obrestad, whose breakthrough triumph in last fall’s WSOP-E Main Event cemented her reputation as one the game’s brightest young players.

On Sunday, April 13th, the WPT Bellagio Five Star World Poker Classic made poker history by offering a ladies’ tournament with a record buy-in of $1,500. In the past, the WSOP Ladies Event buy-in of $1,000 was the highest ever offered. 150 players turned out for the tournament, but it was not without its controversy. Six of the 150 players were men, and a boycott of the event was spearheaded by one of our leading women in poker, Susie Isaacs. The controversy was due to a 15% mandatory charitable donation which was not known beforehand to all entrants, though the tournament went on as planned.
World Poker Tour Settles Player Release Lawsuit

WPT Enterprises, Inc., operators of the World Poker Tour, announced today the settlement of a lawsuit brought against it by several big-name poker players. The action, which focused on the player release form used by the World Poker Tour, was originally filed by seven players who announced the suit at a press conference at the Rio in Las Vegas during the 2006 WSOP. The resolution of the suit involves a modificiation of the WPT’s player release, with no money damages involved.

A lot has happened in the last couple of days in Copenhagen. The sold out event saw the field widdled down to 170 players in the 2 part day 1’s series. The starting field of 460 players had stiff competition from many of the PokerStarts Team of poker pro’s.
